A 50-minute appointment is charged at $260. This compares favourably with the recommended fee of $311 set by the Australian Psychological Society.
You don’t require a referral to see a psychologist. However, with a Mental Health Care Plan from your General Practitioner or Psychiatrist, you can access a Medicare rebate of $141.85 per appointment. You can access up to 10 appointments per calendar year, and up to 40 per year for Eating Disorders.
If you attend on a private basis (without a GP referral), you may be eligible to claim a rebate through your private health insurance extras. Contact your insurer for further details.
